The Power of Buzzwords
Buzzwords are a form of mental prompts that empower you to look to yourself for answers and propel you to action in a positive and proactive way. This month, I share a buzzword from my book’s Life section. With so many moving parts in our personal lives, family, friends, workplace, community, and country, it brings a sense of comfort when you feel you are prepared for the future in one way or the other. I hope this buzzword, and my personal life experience helps you on your journey through life.
This month’s buzzword is:
Be Prepared
I was never a Girl Scout, but I have always loved their motto: “Be prepared.” We cannot prepare for everything in life, but there are many things that we can do. In my case, for example, it seems our car prefers me to be behind the wheel when it gets a flat tire. The first time this happened to me, I was driving alone on a country road, racing to get to a lunch date, and the next time, when racing to get home with a birthday cake where a houseful of guests was soon to arrive. In the latter case, my first impulse was to continue to drive no matter what damage I was doing to the wheel. Thankfully, I chose not to, as my husband had once informed me that if I did drive with a flat tire, resulting in the unnecessary expense of a new wheel, I should not expect a warm welcome when I arrived home! With this buzzword, “Be Prepared,” I learned how to change a tire. Yes, I could just call roadside assistance, but I wanted to be able to do it myself. Now, the stress of worrying about the next time I get a flat tire has been washed away by this newfound knowledge of being prepared. There are many things that we put off doing or learning, whether it be implementing a time-saving task, learning a lifesaving skill, or just planning for the future. Yes, these things are not always easy to do, but once completed, we feel a fabulous sense of accomplishment, independence, and empowerment… “Be Prepared!”
