The Power of Buzzwords
Buzzwords are a form of mental prompts that empower you to look to yourself for answers and propel you to action in a positive and proactive way. As we enter September, I share a buzzword from my book’s Health section. While it speaks to the food we choose to nourish our bodies, it also reminds me of another important place we need nourishment…our friendships. Brené Brown teaches that true friendship requires deep vulnerability, intentional effort, and mutual protection of one another's spirit rather than casual ease. Surround yourself with people who feed your soul—those who truly see you, value you, and reflect the love, respect, and kindness that come with healthy, genuine connections. May you also be “Food, Not Filler” for others, because true friendship is one of life’s greatest treasures.
This month’s buzzword is:
Food, Not Filler
I come from a family of cheese-and-cracker eaters, who will defend this as a meal. This dynamic has led us to many great debates, which have left me starving, literally and figuratively. No matter what team we are on, we must be mindful that our bodies need to eat real food packed with nutrients, not only fillers. Our bodies are amazing in every way, and they need to be fed and fuelled, much like a high-performance car. If you are going to drive it, you must fuel it with premium-grade fuel to get maximum performance. The buzzword “Food, Not Filler” will help remind you that although you may have fillers and snacks within your day, you must have sufficient nutritious food for your body. A car without the proper fuel will suffer from engine trouble and start to break down. Don’t end up like the broken-down car; feed your body like it’s a high-performance machine.
