The Power of Buzzwords
Buzzwords are a form of mental prompts that empower you to look to yourself for answers and propel you to action in a positive and proactive way. In this month of October, during Thanksgiving, I share the buzzword, “Be Grateful” from my book’s Life section. I have found that Thanksgiving can be more than an occasion to celebrate life’s blessings—it can be an everyday state of mind grounded in gratitude. By welcoming an attitude for gratitude, being an ongoing state of deepening your appreciation for the present moment and everything within…it will enrich your life…. “Be Grateful.”
This month’s buzzword is:
Be Grateful
Back in 1996, I learned of the book The Simple Abundance Journal of Gratitude by Sarah Ban Breathnach. It was the first of its kind, providing the reader with a place to record their daily moments of gratitude. I found the gratitude journal beneficial, as it helped me recognize the many blessings I did and do have in my life, unlike the magnitude of social pressures always suggesting one needs more. Now, many years later, there are studies in the field of positive psychology. According to Harvard Health Publishing, “In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.”1 In my own experience, I know this to be true, as gratitude has brought me authenticity, balance, healing, and joy. The buzzword “Be Grateful” is one to remind you to acknowledge the multitude of blessings and gifts that you presently have, all of which will enrich your life.
