The Power of Buzzwords
Buzzwords are a form of mental prompts that empower you to look to yourself for answers and propel you to action in a positive and proactive way. In this month of September, I share a buzzword from my book’s Parenting section. With the start to the new school year and everything it brings, I thought this buzzword would be the perfect choice for parents looking for support…smile. For many households that have been freewheeling over the summer, it can be hard to transition to structured routines with chores, homework, regular meals, social activities, and the big one, bedtime. So, call upon this buzzword “House Rules” to bring clarity, and direction for everyone.
This month’s buzzword is:
House Rules
Healthy households have rules to maintain fairness within a group of individuals to keep everyone happy and working well together. Rules help us develop respect for one another, and in many cases, children crave and need ground rules. Having a set of ground rules can give children a sense of comfort and stability. As parents, if you are the one paying the bills, you deserve to lay down some rules and have them honoured and respected, so do not hesitate to set up “House Rules.” Yes, there will be times that you may need to bend them, but exercise caution, as doing so may set a new precedent for everyone. Also, by saying, “Hey, it’s not me, it’s the House Rules,” you can deflect any personal attacks and prevent a good-cop, bad-cop scenario from developing. The buzzword “House Rules” will help you set guidelines to keep your household harmonious.
